Sydney Area Useful Frequencies

Project day Here are some useful frequencies for the Sydney area (click to access).

Kits for CTCSS tones

As our local repeaters (2 m and 70 cm at Paddington) have been getting so much interference from pager signals, it has been necessary to require a CTCSS tone of 123hz to open them. Many hams currently use transceivers such as the ex-commercial Philips FM900 or AWA RT80/85 series that have not been fitted with CTCSS options.

To remedy this situation Eric, VK2KUR, has developed a CTCSS board for fitting to such rigs which can be supplied through the club. The size of the unit is approx 2" x 1" x ½" and both the frequency and output levels are adjustable. The kit is available in 3 forms

Circuit board only - $5 each
Complete kits of parts - $20 each
Built and tested boards - $30 each

See full technical details and circuit diagram or to buy kits send your order and money (cheque, cash MO etc) to the club (PO Box 581, Vaucluse, 2030) or pay in person at meetings. For overseas orders please contact our treasurer Raffy VK2RF to work out suitable means of payment. Some further information can be obtained on

6 and 2m Repeaters

Offsets are 1 Mhz for 6m and 600 Khz for 2m. Note that CTCSS (123hz) was introduced to Paddington in 2000 to combat heavy interference.

Useful Frequencies (all times local)

AM broadcast stations have a 9 Khz separation (in the US it is 10 Khz), so check this if you have a digital radio. As a bit of trivia - the digits of all VK AM station frequencies add up to 9 (e.g. 702 Khz = 7 + 2 = 9, 1269 Khz = 1 + 2 + 6 + 9 = 18 = 1 + 8 = 9).
