“Indoor” GPS Antenna Amplifier.

I bought one of these GPS Antenna kits in March ’15. They are powered by USB (5V) and seem to come with around 5m antenna leads. Brian VK2NQ had one that he used at the club a few times and I thought it was a great idea. Around the $US30-40 range on eBay some come with wall warts or car 5v adapters.

From tuning my flight controllers, experimenting with GPS on Arduino and Pi, APRS, AIS or even setting up an old GPS with a serial port as a time source this thing has been excellent value. They work best if the amplified head is within 3 metres, and even then I have found that I need to take some devices initially up to about 1.5 metres to get it established then I can move it back a bit. If I can make the antenna lead about 2m longer it will be in a great position above my workbench and that should be perfect.
