CRO

WWII Oscilloscope Type M/D32

General Notes

This unit is constructed in two parts, with a separate power supply and was built by EMI Australia in 1942 as "RDF Testing Equipment". The instruction manual is stamped SECRET in a number of places. The unit has a 3" tube type RCA 906 and 9 other valves including an 884 Thyratron for the timebase.

CROs are not generally considered collectable by radio enthusiasts unless they are very early units from the 1930s, however this is an unusual piece of equipment and its rarity and Australian origin could make it attractive to military equipment collectors.

This unit was complete and in good original condition, complete with the interconnecting cable and a copy of the manual. Its operating condition is unknown, however my view is that there would be little point in getting it working since it would probably need replacement parts and would be of limited usefulness when fixed. Far better to retain its originality and leave it as a display piece.

I no longer have this unit as I have a space problem, so can give little more detail than is on this page.
