Park Air Electronics Scanner 16 WSS 1

General Notes

This unit is a commercial air band scanner built in the 1970s. It has 8 crystal locked channels which can be switched in or out and is intended for 19" rack mounting. Park Air Electronics is a UK based company owned by Northrup Grumman Corporation specialising in air traffic control equipment. They are still in business but have no information on this radio.

This particular unit used to be owned by QANTAS, as can be seen from the red tag on the left hand side, and has crystals for Sydney International airport frequencies. It is a nice unit to use and has an LED for each channel to indicate where it has paused. In order to change the channel frequencies, it would be necessary to obtain different crystals and adjust the tuning. Crystal frequencies are = (Receive freq / 3) - 3.35667 MHz. I have not seen a manual or circuit for this receiver.

These seem to be extremely rare radios on the collector market but would be of limited interest due to the need to purchase crystals to alter the frequency coverage. They operate from 240 v and have a built in speaker. My unit is in good condition and works well. Fortunately I live fairly close to Sydney airport so the set gets a lot of use.

The Sydney Airport channels on my set are
